![]() 2008 July Newsletter "Generally Speaking" As you may have noticed, our monthly newsletter has become our bi-monthly newsletter. Things have been moving fast the past few months and there is a lot to talk about with the merging of our two facilities. First, I think our memberships have been very successful. We are also happy to announce that the pool at North Creek is now open to members. Dues paying members have access at no charge. Associates will have access for a small fee. Visit our website or call North Creek for additional information. The two courses are coming together nicely. The greens at Wedgewood are really coming around. We will be finishing up some thin areas in the next week or so. The tees and fairways are in excellent shape. The greens at North Creek are fantastic. Bent grass in the Mid-South is becoming rare, but these have held up very well and are rolling excellent. Wes Morasch and the crews at both courses have done an outstanding job. Wes has put some mileage on his vehicle going back and forth between North Creek and Wedgewood, but has proven that he can handle two courses. We expect to get better and better in time. I'll let the rest of the staff go into more details, so until next month. . . John Wells "Turf Talk" I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! It has been great golfing weather. We are making a few small changes to a few greens out here at Wedgewood for the better. With this being said nothing drastic is being done, we are simply making a few of the greens just a few square feet smaller to improve the overall quality of the greens. Not all greens will be involved. The small percentage of discontinued green will simply be grown up or sodded to collar height. We are growing in a nursery between 2 and 3. I used the aerification plugs from our greens aerification to sprig the nursery. At North Creek we recently verticutted the greens, this effected putting quality little if any at all. Next week sometime we will be removing a few trees to the left of number 10 green. This green is getting no sunlight in the morning this time of year. The elimination of these trees will give full morning sun to the green, which is important for bent grass, especially this time of year. It will not effect the playability of the hole. We have aerified and fertilized the fairways and they are improving. The city is tying into a sewer line in the back of the driving range, so there is a lot of dirt being moved and some heavy equipment back there right now. This project will in no way effect the course. Also, I am looking for a full time mechanic at North Creek. There is no previous golf course experience necessary, but any applicants need to be very mechanically inclined with small engine/machinery. If anyone knows of anyone who might be interested please contact me, I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions or comments about anything please feel free to contact me. Hope to see you on the course!!! Wes Morasch "From the Golf Shop" Summer is officially here. I hope everyone is keeping as cool as possible. Please make sure to take advantage of the available technology in apparel, such as microfiber and moisture wicking material. These technologies are available in the shop for a great price, and a cooler body on the course is going to lead to lower scores on your card. Also, the pro shop is now fully stocked with the leading brands of golf balls. You may have noticed that the entrance to Wedgewood Dr from Goodman Rd is closed. For access to the facility just go to the light at Pleasant Hill and Goodman Rd and head south, then take a left onto Wedgewood Drive. Hopefully this will clear up some confusion. We are not sure when or if the road will be re-opened. Hope to see you soon! Richard Howell "From the Golf Shop" It has been a pleasure for the staff and myself to serve you these past few months. The transition could not have gone more smoothly for our club family and my own family. We all play golf and we have all had lessons to improve our game. A couple of small changes can help you save strokes and post better scores. These few tips should help you lower your score 3 to 5 strokes per round. Stroke Savers The next time you head out to play, try these ideas and see if it helps your game. For more information about improving your game see Mark at North Creek. Mark Zizmann "Events, Updates & More. . ." Let me just start off by saying Happy 4th of July to everyone. I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend. For those of you playing golf I will see you out here Friday and Saturday! Our memberships have been very successful this year. We have always tried to have a membership that fits any type of golfer and now we have gone even further and now have a summer membership available. For only $90/mo (no initiation fee) you and your family can enjoy a full membership (Monday-Friday) to both courses and unlimited access to the pool at North Creek. If you decide you would like to continue your membership past the summer months, you can pay your initiation fee and become a year round member. For more information please visit our website or give me a call. Right now is a popular time to book fall outings. We have already started to fill up August, September, and October, so if you are planning on having an event at either course please contact me soon so I can lock you in for a date and get the ball rolling. Speaking of tournaments, Wedgewood and North Creek will be hosting 2 club tournaments in the next couple of months. August 23rd and 24th will be the Wedgewood/North Creek Pre-Pigskin Summer Classic and September 16th and 18th we will be holding the Senior Club Championship. Both of these events are going to be a lot of fun. We will be sending out more information about these events very soon. Lastly, the weekday 9 hole scrambles have been very successful at both courses this summer, especially at Wedgewood the past month. We are almost filling it up every week so give us a call and sign up for Tuesdays at Wedgewood and Wednesdays at North Creek. Don't miss out on a great way to end the work day and take home some extra money! Don't hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions or suggestions. See everyone soon!! Megan Clark "Banquets & More . . ." I wanted to devote this month's newsletter to updating everyone on our banquet options that we are offering at North Creek. Since the merger of the 2 courses, our banquet facility has been a hit! We are now offering a "meet and play" special. We have recently started hosting company meetings in our banquet rooms on weekdays. We will provide the room with a projector and screen, breakfast or lunch and our special corporate golf rate. It is the perfect opportunity to get away from the office and out on the course, while still getting your work done. Also, the holidays are fast approaching. I have been booking company Christmas parties since April and dates are going fast. Call now to reserve a date! Remember, all members get a discounted rate on the banquet room. You can call or e-mail me to see what type of rate you apply for with your membership. Also, the Club at North Creek's pool is now open! All members have access to the pool through Labor Day and will have discounted rates for pool rentals. So if you are planning a party this summer and need a location, look no further than the Club at North Creek's banquet room and poolhouse! Julie Carder
