First Hole-in-One Recorded at Butterfield Trail Golf Club

One Month Countdown to Tom Fazio Opening

EL PASO, Texas, May 8, 2007 – On May 6, 2007, the first hole-in-one was officially recorded at Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, announced course manager KemperSports. El Paso resident Gene Carrejo achieved the golfing feat at the soon-to-open Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, scheduled to open to the public next month.

Carrejo, who was playing on the ECM-sponsored team, recorded the ace during a preview golf outing for the South Central Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives held this past Sunday. Carrejo used his 7-iron at the seventh hole, measuring 163 yards, while playing in the scramble.

“I hit the ball and it looked good from the start,” said Carrejo. “My teammates and I were just yelling, ‘go in, go in,’ and it just went in,” said Carrejo.

This was Carrejo’s fourth hole-in-one. His team, including Tom Cardenas, Jorge Arango and Ricardo Gutierrez, went on to win the tournament with a score of 17 under par.

Developed and owned by the city of El Paso’s Department of Aviation, Butterfield Trail features a par-72, championship design by world-renowned course architect Tom Fazio, complemented by a spacious practice facility and an 8,800-square-foot clubhouse. Fazio took advantage of distinctive desert topography, including natural sand dunes and native flora and fauna, to highlight the Southwest’s natural beauty. The 18-hole, public golf destination will serve as a high-end anchor to the airport’s surrounding property and business as well as a catalyst for future commercial development.
