The Art of the Chip
Chipping is simply a mini overall swing. How big of a swing, depends on how far your chip shot is.
Here is an easy way to visualize the movements when making the chip shot: Imagine your right arm and hand in an underhand tossing motion alone. To determine distance, you must use your legs. Your legs direct your arm and hand to determine how far back and forward your arm must move in this motion. No one can effectively chip the ball holding their feet and legs together standing flat-footed. A gentle weight shift into the back leg on the wind-up followed by a response into the front leg on the forward motion is necessary to feel the proper distance.
