Hit It Farther with Less Effort
Have you ever noticed a golfer who looks like they generate power effortlessly? It’s okay to be jealous. Many golfers can crush the ball with out swinging very hard, but know that it is achievable for anyone to attain effortless power! The thing we notice about the effortless swing is a smooth tempo, especially during the transition from the backswing to the downswing. Here is a drill to practice working on your tempo through the transition:
Take a full swing but only hit the ball 1/2 the yardage. For example if you hit your 7 Iron 150 yards then take a full swing but slow it down enough to only hit it 75 yards. With your driver if you hit it 240 yards, try to hit it 120 yards with a full swing. Always focus on hitting the sweet spot of the club; otherwise do not count your shot. The key during this drill is you keep your body and shoulders rotating throughout the swing, using the arms as little as possible. As you get comfortable and start to find the sweet spot you can speed up your swing speed. Remember to maintain the same focus on tempo and body rotation and you too can achieve effortless power!
