Golf Tip from Luc McLeod, Assistant Golf Professional at Legion Memorial Golf Course.
“Get into a more athletic posture!”
Here is something to try in order to make a more athletic move towards the ball:
To start, get into an athletic position taking address behind the ball. What you want to do in your stance is to push your butt back and let your chest hang down - this allows your arms to hang freely under your chest. A common mistake golfers make is bending their knees too much forcing their butt to squat down. Instead, focus on bending at the hips.
During the swing, at impact, be sure to focus on keeping the trail shoulder down. For right handing golfers, this means keeping your right shoulder down through impact, for lefty’s, it means keeping your left shoulder down through impact. Lastly, remember to allow your hips and shoulders to continue rotating post-impact. This should help you achieve a more athletic move during the golf swing.
